Spy Planes Detected In Bolivia's Air Space, Government Says


LA PAZ, Oct 19 (BERNAMA-NNN-EFE) -- Bolivia's intelligence service has detected the presence of aircraft apparently being used for spying, Deputy Social Defence and Controlled Substances Minister Felipe Caceres said.

"We're talking about the security of the Bolivian state, we have lots of information. We have to be alert to the fact that there are unidentified aircraft in Bolivian air space, and it's a matter of state security," Caceres told the official ABI news agency.

The deputy minister, who oversees the fight against drug trafficking in Bolivia, said the government was planning to acquire French-made radar systems to control the Andean nation's military and civilian air space.

The government has reached agreements in France to buy 16 radar systems for 202 million euros (about $229 million).
