(4,935 posts)I play this particular tune in an eleven piece Ragtime Orchestra. A lot of the dance groups love the waltzes so this is pretty popular with them.

(43,890 posts)One of the most familiar tunes in the world, yet few know it's origins and most assume it's Strauss.
Present company excepted. People who are into Music, are into Music history as well.

(4,935 posts)No one with a semi-trained ear would think this tune sounded remotely Strauss!
Maybe because I've heard this so much as a child growing up in El Paso, way before I discovered classical music, I just always knew.

(160,545 posts)I had to stop the music and run to check the Wikipedia link you included, saw that it has been connected to trapeze acts.
I had absolutely no idea of its real name. Have heard it so often.
Can hear the almost military touch in the music, it was made for festive occasions, wasn't it? Expansive.
Very glad to learn about this composer. The song is much more interesting, knowing who wrote it.
Thank you!
