Colombian General Investigated for Obstructing Inquest into Crimes

Bogota, Nov 26 (Prensa Latina) Colombian Attorney General''s Office investigates general Marco Lino Tamayo for obstructing inquest into crimes known as false positives or extrajudicial executions of civilians, local media said today.
According to RCN News, prosecutors carry out an investigation against the high-ranking officer since last October for obstructing probe into such crimes.

Experts, who seek to put names and last names on those responsible of hundreds of extrajudicial killings, have not been able to do their jobs allegedly due to General Tamayo's interference, the television station said.

The General issued verbal orders to his subordinates aiming at hindering investigations into the false positive cases, it added.

False positive cases are about civilians presented as guerrilla members dead in combat in order to report success by the public forces in the counter-insurgent fight. hr/mlm/ro/ap
