After the election defeat suffered by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and its allies in the December 6 parliamentary elections, President Maduro was returning to Miraflores Palace in the late afternoon of the following day in a small motorcade when he was met by thousands of people in the street, waiting outside the palace gates.
These were not opposition protesters demanding his resignation, as the corporate media would have loved to report and believe, but a spontaneous demonstration of support for the President and his policies which are facing the threat of a very rough ride from January 5 onward when the opposition takes its seats in the National Assembly with an absolute majority.
The supporters were well aware that the opposition will try to dismantle many of the social laws and policies approved over the last 16 years under chavismo as it has to serve its financiers (the banks and rich entrepreneurs) as well as the US that has spent billions of dollars over the years to unseat the Bolivarian Revolution.
However, the Revolution has not been unseated as the opposition only holds part of the reins of power and will have to face up to popular resistance by the millions of chavistas in the country that represented 43% of the vote on December 6 about 6.17 million.

(9,951 posts)I'll bet this was a coordinated, planned show of "support" for that ass, Maduro.
Getting desperate for some good news?

(14,732 posts)demonstrations of support for the regime. Maduro is doing his best to push the new narrative that the revolution is 'not dead', etc. etc. Since the Army turned him down on helping him to defy the results of the election he is left with only shams like creating a 'second' Legislature, 'spontaneous demonstrations' and the like.
