BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) Colombia's second-largest rebel group is demanding that authorities locate and return the e remains of one of Latin America's most emblematic guerrillas.
Camilo Torres was a Roman Catholic priest who set aside his cassock in 1965 to take up arms for the National Liberation Army. He was killed in his first combat and has been revered by leftists ever since as a martyr who died fighting for social justice.
His body was never found but is believed to have been taken by his military enemies as a trophy.
The ELN in a statement Friday said that as the 50th anniversary of Torres' death approaches it's time he receive a proper burial.
Locating the remains could also encourage the ELN to join peace talks with the much-larger FARC rebel ground.
