“We are celebrating nine years of reborn hope, of fulfilled promises and of homeland for all,” said Correa at the anniversary celebration.

President Rafael Correa recalled with emotion at a celebration in the coastal city of Guayaquil, the “beautiful electoral campaign of 2006,” when his party came out of nowhere after only polling at 5-7 percent in the polls and later “won over the richest man of the country.”

The country on Friday celebrated the 9th anniversary of the Citizen Revolution – the Ecuadorean president’s popular political project and movement which has reshaped and transformed politics in the country, while ushering in progressive social gains.

The president especially thanked the country’s youth in his speech, given in the recently-inaugurated accoustic venue of Samanas Park, in the north of the city.
