Silly sloth, you cant cross the road by yourself!
The sloth was clinging tightly to a crash barrier when it was found. Workers from Ecuadors transit commission were tasked with rescuing it.

(12,151 posts)the sloth was in fact rescued here. I mean, the transportation worker looks friendly, but WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
Did the sloth get across the road?
Did he go to some kind of sloth pound awaiting adoption?
What about the blood on his little foot? IS THAT BLOOD?
Is he okay?
UPDATE: He's apparently fine.

Didn't intend to omit it, I didn't check after posting the first time.

Interesting comments in the Independent article about the failure to provide a wildlife corridor when the transit corridor was being developed though.

(160,542 posts)Ecuador traffic police rescue frightened sloth from highway
By Ben Hooper Contact the Author | Jan. 25, 2016 at 12:46 PM
QUEVEDO, Ecuador, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Authorities in Ecuador shared photos of an adorable but terrified sloth found clinging to a barrier at the side of a recently-opened highway.
The Ecuador Transit Commission shared pictures on Facebook of a sloth that apparently became frightened while trying to cross the highway in Quevedo and ended up clinging to a roadside barrier.
Police said the sloth -- or "lazy bear" as they are known in Ecuador -- was examined by a veterinarian before being released back into the wild.
The executive director of the Ecuador Transit Commission issued an order after the incident that any animals found on streets and highways must be assisted by authorities.

(160,542 posts)That's just even worse, thinking of that poor little one trying so hard to know what to do, how to escape, and getting some of his fur ripped off his foot in the effort. At least he knew he couldn't afford the luxury of trying to scamper for the trees to hide, and risking becoming road kill.
It is a relief knowing a vet saw him the same day, if the report is correct, and he/she would have been able to disinfect it, maybe somehow bandage it, keep it safe so it could heal.
The whole experience would have been terrifying. So glad those officers were human beings, not losers, and helped him.

(160,542 posts)A year or two ago, someone in one of the Latin American countries was going to cut down some trees where sloths were living, and they contacted Monique Pool to come to rescue the sloth sweeties.
Here's one article from eppur_se_muova, from 2014:
