LIMA, Feb 10 (BERNAMA-NNN-PRENSA LATINA)--Peru's presidential candidate Veronika Mendoza urged her 18 opponents to commit to the search for the remains of the 15,000 people who had disappeared during the country's so-called internal war (1980-2000) and not to leave those responsible for human rights violations unpunished.
Mendoza called on opponents yesterday during a visit to the city of Huamanga, capital of the Ayacucho region, epicenter of the action carried out by the group Sendero Luminoso since 1980 and the scene for extrajudicial executions and other State crimes.
She also urged candidates to sign a Commitment for the Memory, so all the violations of human rights committed in that time are do not remain unpunished and families can recover the bodies of those lost.
The presidential candidate held a meeting in Ayacucho with members of the Association of Families of Detained, Kidnapped and Disappeared Persons of Peru, who demand to search for the missing relatives, who were detained by military or police forces.
