Right-Wing Venezuelan Leader Says Ecuadoreans Don't Need Help
Venezuela sent its third group of humanitarian workers Monday to help those suffering from Saturday's deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
President of Venezuela's right-wing National Assembly, Henry Ramos Allup, tweeted Monday that the Venezuelan people, and not Ecuadoreans, deserve humanitarian aid.
"If anyone needs humanitarian aid, it's our poor country of Venezuela, destroyed by the devastating and permanent earthquake that has lasted 17 years," Henry Ramos Allup said, referring to the year when former president Hugo Chavez came to power in 1999.
Venezuela sent its third group of humanitarian workers on Monday across the border to help with the hundreds already leading recovery efforts on the Ecuadorean coast.
Ecuador was hit by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake on Saturday that has killed at least 443 people, injured over 4,000 others and left at least 231 people being declared missing. Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa estimates that damages will cost up to US$3 billion.

(2,035 posts)He never said that Ecuador doesn't need help.
He simply is saying that the Venezuelan government should be focusing more on Venezuela's people, who are going through a tough crisis themsleves, than coming to the aid of another country's people. But go ahead, spin things into false narratives, it serves you quite well.
