In the Shadow of the Games, Black Expats Share Their View of Brazil

During the Olympics, several expatriates now living in Brazil gave us their perspective what its like to live in the country

For the most part, during the 2016 Olympics, we’ve seen Brazil through the eyes of the media without glancing at what its like for people who live day-to-day in cities like Rio de Janiero.

But photographer AhDream Smith traveled to Brazil during the games and had a chance to speak with several African-American expatriates to get their viewpoint of culture, living and Blackness in the South American nation. They told her about the differences — and similarities they’ve found.
