David Rivera: The Shit Has Hit the Fan - Witness M.I.A. - Cuban American politics..

http://eyeonmiami.blogspot.com/2012/09/david-rivera-shit-has-hit-fan-witness.html

Rivera is up against Joe Garcia, a Democrat who is in favor of better relations with Cuba (well now he is because he used to be the head of CANF - the right wing Cuban American organization)

Her lawyer made a deal that she would speak to investigators instead but never showed up. Ana was managing the campaign for Democrat Justin Sternad running against David Rivera. Sternad is believed to be a shill put in the race by David Rivera and Sternad's campaign also was believed to be financed with David Rivera's help. There were $100 bills stuffed in envelopes paying for Sternads's extensive campaign flyers said a mail house operator who was also a former government agent. Ana Alliegro's lawyer and her mother both have not heard from her. Ana is a good friend of David Rivera. The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald reported:

"Gudy Alliegro said the last time she spoke with her daughter was Wednesday night when she talked about driving with her father to the interview with investigators. But she never showed up at the family home in Little Havana, recalls the mother.

2. Essentially Rep. Rivera paid to get a weaker candidate - Sternad - to win the Dem. primary

but he lost to Joe Garcia who will probably beat Rivera. But anyway, this witness is in the middle and her testimony is crucial. Someone might go to prison for this and Rivera is known to be corrupt and nasty. So it's scary that's she is missing. Or she's just attempting to avoid the inevitable.

Padilla, Alliegro's lawyer, said Friday that he still has not heard from his client.

The federal probe of Sternad and Rivera began last month after El Nuevo Herald and the Miami Herald reported that Sternad may have violated federal campaign-finance laws after spending thousands of dollars in cash on mailers without disclosing the source of the funds to the Federal Election Commission.

The last FEC report Sternad filed for the monthly period ending July 25 showed he spent $11,262 and spent $10,440 to pay for the state fee to qualify for the ballot in the newly drawn congressional District 26 primary race, which stretches from Kendall to Key West. He listed just $11,000 in his campaign account.

Amid the newspaper reports and the launch of a federal probe, Sternad amended his financial disclosures to show he had loaned himself nearly $53,000 more than he originally reported.

Sternad's opponents in the Aug. 14 Democratic primary claimed Sternad's campaign was directed by Rivera, who is a Republican.

Campaign vendors have told the Herald that Sternad, who had never run for public office, ran a sophisticated mail campaign orchestrated and funded by Rivera.

Sternad and his attorney, Rick Yober, have declined comment. Rivera has vehemently denied working with Sternad, referring the Herald to his statement on the matter.

"Congressman Rivera has never met or spoken to Mr. Sternad and knows absolutely nothing about him or his campaign," the statement said.

Putting up a strawman candidate is common practice in "democratic" Miami-Dade. For both parties.

3. I Suspect That Ms Alliegro Was Up to Something Shady--BUT

I suspect that Ms. Alliegro might have been up to something shady regarding the Sternad primary campaign and that she (and probably Rivera) knew all sorts of interesting things that they don't want either the feds or the state of Florida to find out about. Nevertheless, I hope for her physical safety, even if I hope she is subject to arrest and prosecution for her own role in this affair.

but the comments on some blogs have Rivera as having done some nasty things -- this blog I linked with mentions pushing a truck off the road.

Somehow I think either way - Rivera knows where she is..

8. Okay, David Rivera is as corrupt and sleazy politician you'll ever find.

Bribes, money-laundering, tax evasion... you name it, and he's up to his eyeballs in it. And it appears the Feds have solid evidence he was financially backing a fake dem in the primary to damage or beat his opponent. Ana Alliegro is as slimey and corrupt as Rivera... natch, they're good friends. Now, if something untoward has happened to Alliegro, she probably deserves it. And Rivera is probably behind it. It's probably only a matter of time before the FBI nails these crooks.

9. Do you think she deserved it if she was about to spill the beans?

That's what I'm thinking.. I mean if this turns out to be foul play. Isn't that the usual narrative? My question should be.. what else has she done -- this gets more interesting by the hour.

I am checking Google news for info. You can't just disappear these days with cell phones..

she apparently had some kind of working relationship with Rivera ( if not more), and knew what a sleazeball he is. She is no innocent party. If she chose to associate with criminals, it's not going to end well no matter if the criminals or the law gets ahold of her.

who became Cocaine Cowboys, like Willie Falcon and Sal Magluta.

From an old article:

Magluta Guilty Of Bribery, Money Laundering

August 16, 2002|By David CM-azares Miami Bureau and Staff Writer Madeline BarM-s Diaz contributed to this report.

Reputed drug lord Sal Magluta, the chief target of federal prosecutors in South Florida for more than a dozen years, was convicted Thursday of money laundering and of bribing a juror in his 1996 drug-trafficking trial.

Magluta, whom authorities describe as a cocaine cowboy who once flaunted his huge drug profits, raced cigarette boats and stashed millions in suitcases during the 1980s, was cleared of ordering the murders of three witnesses, sparing him a mandatory life sentence. The split verdicts caused both sides in the case to claim victory.
