Participation and Democracy in Talks for Colombian Peace in Ecuador

Participation and Democracy in Talks for Colombian Peace in Ecuador

Quito, Feb 8 (Prensa Latina) Social participation and democracy for peace are the central issues today in the talks between the Government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) toward an agreement to end the armed conflict that has been on for decades in Colombia.

The exchange behind closed doors starts the first cycle of the public negotiation table, after the establishment yesterday of that stage at the farm Cashapamba, a property of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, located 30 kilometers from this capital

During around 40 days, the sides will analyze the first two points of the agenda, which includes issues as as the necessary changes for peace, admittance of the victims and recognition of their rights, mechanisms to put an end to the armed conflict and as the last step, implementation of the agreements reached.

Among the points of convergence highlighted the interest of holding direct and continuous talks between the Government and the ELN in order not to delay the agreement that defines the change toward true peace, so-expected by the Colombian people, Latin America and the international community.
