Trump, Argentine President Macri hold White House talks

President Donald Trump has welcomed Argentine President Mauricio Macri to the White House for talks.

Trump and first lady Melania Trump greeted Macri and his wife, Juliana Awada, at the South Lawn entrance of the White House.

The White House said when it announced Thursday's visit that the leaders would discuss how to deepen relations between their countries. Trump and Macri are also expected to confer on a range of bilateral and regional issues, including trade, security and Venezuela's deteriorating political situation.

Foreign trade, particularly lemons and biodiesel, may also be discussed. The Trump administration recently postponed a decision by former President Barack Obama to lift a 16-year ban on imports of Argentine lemons.

The U.S. has historically run trade surpluses with Argentina, with a $4 billion merchandise surplus in 2016 and another $5 billion surplus in services.

Macri had earlier visited Houston, where he addressed a meeting of oil executives. The visit stirred controversy in Argentina when, later yesterday, he presided over the opening of a new steel tube plant built in Houston by Argentine-based Tenaris - which has recently laid off 200 of its 3,000 workers in Argentina amid the deepest downturn there since the 2002 crisis.

Trump and Macri enjoy a personal relationship dating from a 1984 Manhattan real estate deal that Macri hopes to leverage to boost relations.

Like most "Trump towers" it's being built by someone else (in this case an Argentine developer known as 'YY'); but because it will bear the Trump insignia, and because it's a $100 million project (see: https://www.democraticunderground.com/10141654304), Cheeto stands to make real money.

The problem is that every time YY pitches the idea to the municipal permits authorities, they keep asking "why, why?"

Probably will get the permission, now, after Cheeto makes a huge deal over some new compromise he can offer Macri, some "token of esteem" from the US taxpayers, after he gets Macri to get his hotel underway for him.

From your article:

Have you ever seen two creepier people in the same photo?
Is it possible Macri is looking at Trump's almost hair-like head covering?[/center]
On edit:

Have you seen any photos, yet, of Trump trying to pull Macri out of his chair, as he did with Prime Minister Abe?
That would be interesting.

Trump looks like he's monopolizing the conversation (what a shock), and Macri looks disappointed.

Perhaps it's because Trump hasn't forgotten that, shortly before the election, Macri said in an interview that Trump "is crazy. He's an exhibitionist, and couldn't possibly win due to his personality."

Here's footage from today's event, Judi, courtesy of CSPAN: https://www.c-span.org/video/?427676-1/president-trump-says-hell-terminate-nafta-doesnt-get-fair-deal

Trump mostly kept his hands to himself; but it was interesting to see Macri look down and away while Trump gushed about his being "a great president of Argentina who loves his people."

"I know what I'm backing," Trump added.

It's excruciating seeing Trump in the place of the host, almost totally ignoring his guest publically, as he yammers endlessly about himself, his infinite friendship with Pena Nieto and Justin Trudeau.

It wasn't that long Peña Nieto even considered cancelling his trip here, in his resistance to the astounding insult of the Trump Wall.
It's not likely anyone in Mexico has changed his/her mind, either.

Whatever Macri's image is in Argentina, I'll bet they don't make images of him and beat them with sticks, as they do in Mexico, and here, too, undoubtedly!

It seems so doubtful they would load Trump's piñatas with anything delightful to fall out, once the piñata is broken open. I can only imagine what kinds of things they would stuff into them if they wanted to be more realistic!

In the case of Trump's visit to Washington, it's completely unlikely that it will add more prestige to his image back in his country, having met with the Great Trump, himself. Talk about wasting one's time!

Thank you for the video. It was very interesting.

I wanted to add, that was the first video clip I've seen of Macri's wife. She is much prettier in the video than one could grasp in the photographs I've seen of her. It's not her fault her husband is a dictatorship supporter, anyway.
