Carter Praises Venezuela, Scolds U.S. on Electoral Processes
by Chris Shattuck | September 17, 2012
When Hugo Chavez won Venezuela's election in 2006, not everyone was happy about the results.
Still, former President Jimmy Carter said at the Carter Center Sept. 11, the controversial leader won "fairly and squarely."
He steered clear of Mr. Chavez's political views, but Mr. Carter praised the South American country for a touch-screen voting system that both stores votes electronically and via paper ballots, allowing easier verification of the election results.
"As a matter of fact, of the 92 elections that we've monitored, I would say the election process in Venezuela is the best in the world," Mr. Carter said, noting the center's extensive work monitoring elections around the globe.

(24,010 posts)The Venezuelan people created THE best--most reliable, honest and transparent--election system in Latin America, praised and certified by numerous international election groups--but, gee, they must be really dumb people to use that election system to vote themselves a "New Deal," defend it from a rightwing coup d'etat, vote for it again and are so pleased with this result that they rate their own country fifth in the world in the Gallup "well-being" poll (measure of current personal well-being and future prospects).
But YOU think their election system produces "bad" choices--giving no details, of course, and ignoring overwhelming data that Venezuelans are quite happy with their choices. We really ought to heed YOUR view of Venezuela's election system, on the basis of nothing but your gut feeling.
Right.

If the polls do not suit the desires of the people in power they can of course say someone tried to game the system and since it's electronic voting machines people will believe them.
