The Justice Department is looking into filing federal charges against the man who killed Kate Steinle in the summer two years ago.
Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, a Mexican man who is an illegal alien in the United States, was acquitted of Steinles murder and manslaughter on Thursday, Nov. 30. He was convicted on a lesser charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
He may now face federal charges for a felony re-entry or a felony violation of supervised release, hypothesized Sarah Isgur Flores, Justice Department spokeswoman, on Fridays Fox & Friends.
We will prosecute this to the fullest extent available in the law, she said.

malicious prosecution, IMO.

(1,893 posts)2. A drunk driver who kills someone usually gets some jail time, so should a drunk shooter
COLGATE4
(14,732 posts)3. Then prosecute him/her for the drink driving, not some bullshit
made-up Federal charge because you're pissed off that a jury didn't convict him.

(4,149 posts)4. So let's keep him in the country even longer at taxpayer expense???
Plus the cost of another prosecution. I'm surprised that he wasn't convicted of manslaughter, but there is no second bite at that apple so I would have thought the expedient thing would be to get him out of the country and make him someone else's problem.

How did that work? The war on women continues.
