Ecuador 'rejects unlimited election terms', blocking Correa return

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-42937819

Ecuadoreans have voted to scrap unlimited presidential terms, a move which should stop leftist ex-leader Rafael Correa from returning to power.

A quick count suggested 64% of voters supported a constitutional change which will prevent presidents from holding office for more than two terms.

The question was one of seven being put to voters in a referendum.

It was called by current President Lenin Moreno, once Mr Correa's deputy but now his staunch opponent.

Correa was/is out of power when the referendum was taken. He is essentially done, unless something unforeseen occurs.

Evo Morales was/is in office when the referendum barring unlimited terms was reinforced, (as written into the Bolivian constitution)... but he just has his "Supreme Tribunal of Justice" (filled with his supporters) overrule both the voters and the Constitution.

He has decided, like Maduro in Venezuela, that he is "too important" to be barred from being "presidente for life". He will run again for presidente regardless of the voters and regardless of the Constitution.

My fear is that Bolivia (which has been doing pretty darn well, due to Morales embracing a mixed economy) will end up an authoritarian shitstorm like Venezuela.

is unbelievably corrupt. I think Argentina was closest to following Chavez's lead into the abyss.
