"There is a desire of the region to help Venezuela find a way out of the crisis," said the third in the line of command of the State Department in an interview with The Associated Press in which he also shared his impressions on the relationship between United States and Latin America.

Maduro has refused to receive aid offered by countries and organizations of the continent claiming that in his country there is no humanitarian crisis, although he says he is the victim of an economic blockade of Washington. However, unbridled four-digit inflation and a severe shortage of food and medicines have generated a massive exodus of Venezuelans to Colombia and other neighboring nations in recent months.

The US diplomat hopes that the hemispheric community will contribute to a peaceful and electoral solution in the South American nation despite the fact that the last edition of the dialogue between the government and the Venezuelan opposition - accompanied by five chancelleries - was wrecked this month in the Dominican Republic. .

Shannon announced his resignation a few weeks ago, although he said he will not leave the position until his successor is elected.

The diplomat has traveled to Caracas several times to serve as direct spokesman for Washington with Maduro, whose government is directly responsible for the crisis by not being "willing to take the necessary steps to build an electoral scenario where the opposition can participate with confidence."

There are approx 40 Chavistas that are being targeted for individual sanctions by the EU, the US and various other countries. Also, US entities are forbidden to renegotiate Chavista debt. THAT IS THE EXTENT OF SANCTIONS AGAINST VENEZUELA.

Maduro won't accept humanitarian aid, as it makes it appear that Chavismo is a failure. Because a 41,000,000% devaluation in your currency in 18 years isn't an appearance of failure?
