Duque will not recognize government of Venezuela

President elect of Colombia, Iván Duque, does not recognize the government of Venezuela and will not send ambassador

The newly elected Colombian president, Iván Duque, reported on Tuesday that he will not recognize the government of Nicolás Maduro and therefore will not send an ambassador to Venezuelan territory.

"Given the ignorance that several Latin American countries have made, including the Colombian government, in the face of the elections, we do not recognize the results of those elections and it is very difficult for us to be incoherent," he told the media.

Earlier, the Uribista called for the release of political prisoners in Venezuela and described as shameful the possible intentions of the Maduro regime to jail opposition leader María Corina Machado.

"it is very difficult for us to be incoherent"? Is that just a bad translation? Glorfindel Jun 2018 #1

It is what I use to translate from the original Spanish to English. Often, nuance is lost.

What was meant is that Colombia (and the rest of Latin America) must be clear in its dealings with Maduro.

Lots of nuance is lost in translation. Try explaining "head over heels" to a non-English speaker.
