Colonia Dignidad Makes News again in Chile with Germany

Santiago, Chile, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) A visit by a group of German parliamentarians has brought the infamous Colonia Dignidad, in Chile, back to front pages, after they offered economic aid to its victims.

Headed by the former Nazi Paul Schaefer, a friend and close collaborator of Dictator Augusto Pinochet to tortures and abduct people, Colonia Dignidad regained prominence from a film with Emma Watson and Daniel Bruhl.

The lawmakers visited Colonia Dignidad and could talk to key witnesses, some of whom were harassed and tortured in the enclave, where the leader of the Schaefer sect committed sexual abuses on minors.

During the Pinochet military junta, Schaefer offered the facilities of the enclave to the secret police of the regime and, according to unofficial figures, hundreds of opponents to the dictatorship went missing there.
