Rearranging the deck chairs (apparatchiks) in Venezuela. Elias out. Again. Aristobulo in. Again.

ND / 4 Sep 2018.- The President of the Republic (Maduro) appointed on Tuesday the minister of communes, Aristóbulo Istúriz, as the new Minister of Education and Vice President for the Social Area.

The appointment was made by the Head of State through his Twitter account, where he described Istúriz "as a lifelong teacher fighter" and highlighted his return "to classrooms, and to the consolidation process of a powerful system "

He also thanked the outgoing minister, Elías Jaua, "for his performance in the task entrusted" in turn, adding that "new missions await him in the construction of the Homeland."

In a third tweet he reported on the appointment of Blanca Eekout, as the substitute of Istúriz in the Ministry of Communes, labeling the new minister as "a woman of deep sensitivity and rapport with our people."

Istúriz was Minister of Education in the Government of Hugo Chávez between 2001 and 2007. He comes from being Minister of Communes. Vice President (January 2016-17) and Governor of Anzoátegui (2012-16) among other positions.

As is customary for Chavismo, various PSUV apparatchiks get shuffled from this "important ministry" to another "important ministry" in the hopes that the epic failures of their last assignment can be forgotten. If no ministry can be found, one is created.

Over 400 public and private schools are not opening this school year because parents cannot afford to purchase even notebook paper. School clothes? How is a parent going to find (let alone afford) a school uniform? Everything is imported, because nothing is manufactured in Venezuela, and the cost of socks is more than what a parent earns in a month.

Teachers cannot afford shoes! Any teacher who can has left for jobs outside of Venezuela that pay better than the $3/month that Chavismo offers.
