In "Zones of Peace" criminals given free reign over entire districts of Caracas

"Zones of Peace": The criminal empires that still apply in 12 points of Caracas
Lysaura Fonts | September 15, 2018

Caracas.- Manuela Álvarez (fictitious name to protect her identity) that morning on Sunday, September 2, she planned to visit her friend in the upper part of the 70 El Valle neighborhood. She was from the lower part of the area, but had stayed with her friend to attend her home to talk for a few hours.

Manuela had never come to her friend's house, and despite the warnings, that it is a dangerous area, she decided to go and see her, however, they agreed to meet at some point in the sector.

That day Álvarez came to the stairs that lead to the upper part of the neighborhood and as her friend was delayed she decided to go up and find her on the road, but at one point she was surprised by a young man, approximately 20 years old, who was carrying a radio and he was armed . This young man forced her to stop.

The boy asked Manuela where he was going and she told him she was waiting for her friend. At that moment the young man communicated by radio.

Later the friend of Manuela arrived and both went hurried to the house. Manuela managed to know through her friend that the young man who had arrested her was a member of a gang in the area and that she approached him because she was not from the sector.

The upper part of the neighborhood El 70 in El Valle is currently " Zone of Peace", where members of bands dominate the area at will and act as a group that keeps subordinates to the inhabitants of the sector.

"This is a red dot, where these bands are entrenched that behave like pranes, we have to ask their permission, they have alcabalas in the high points, where they leave you with long weapons and they ask you where you are going, most of us are afraid of talk about them, "said a neighbor, who preferred not to identify herself for fear of reprisals.

The National Police (Bolivarian) and the National Guard (Bolivarian) do not enter these zones. They are ruled by heavily armed Chavist "colectivo" gangs who shake down the population for whatever wealth they have, and are only required by Maduro to come to the aid of The Fatherland when called.

You have no idea WTF you're talking about.

The Chavista's have been in power for 20+ years and things have gone from bad to catastrophic.

And don't give us this crap that the US is to blame for the country's ills, this is all on Chavez and his incompetent ass of a successor, Maduro.

Up until 20 years ago, Venezuela was the envy of Latin America. Transparent elections. Education for everyone. Socialized medicine.

It's an absolute shithole now. 90% of the people live in poverty, with 2/3 living in extreme poverty.

No food, medicine.
No running water, no reliable electricity.
No trade unionism. No free press.

Have you picked up a newspaper? 40% of the businesses in Venezuela closed last month. That on top of the 50% that had previously gone under in the last 19 years.
