How to reduce fuel consumption by 60%, to 1976 levels? Bankrupt your nation!

Impoverished! Gasoline consumption dropped to levels of 40 years ago
The Cooperator | October 13, 2018

Caracas.- The economic crisis that crosses the country is also reflected in the consumption of gasoline, and that is that in the last six years, Venezuela has decreased its use until reaching the levels of 1976.

This was reported by Nelson Hernández, who pointed out that the country went from consuming 300,000 barrels of fuel per day to 120,000, the equivalent to the consumption of 42 years ago.

"That indicates how impoverished the country is," said the *****. In the last year, oil production fell below 1.5 million barrels per day, reaching the lowest levels for 30 years. The bankruptcy of PDVSA is the main reason for this steep fall, which is expected to close below one million by the end of the year.

To further curb the consumption of gasoline, also scarce because of the aforementioned, the Government will implement the collection of fuel with the ID card of the country*, and will charge international prices to those who do not own it.

*The Carnet de la Patria is also known as the "Chavista Loyalty Card". Consider it the national Costco card of Venezuela, except that you cannot get healthcare, food or gas without it, as well as perks such as "traveling" from one area of the country to another. Or getting a passport. Or getting a job in any sector the government holds sway. If you are using the card, you support Chavismo, and hence you don't need to bother voting... Chavismo will do that for you! Isn't that convenient?

Regardless of the card, Venezuela doesn't manufacture any cars. No new cars are imported, and only smuggled in spare parts are sold for hard currency (USD). No motor oil and only imported gas in a country that used to be the second biggest producer in the western hemisphere. (they can't refine their own oil)
