Venezuela's Guaido returns home in affront to Maduro

Efrain Otero, Carlos Jasso
5 MIN READ

MAIQUETIA, Venezuela (Reuters) - Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido arrived at Caracas’ airport on Monday after flouting a court-imposed travel ban by touring Latin American countries to boost support for his campaign to oust President Nicolas Maduro.

A crowd of cheering supporters swarmed Guaido and his wife as they stepped into Maiquetia international airport’s arrivals hall. He then climbed onto a car roof and gave a thumbs up to people clustered in the road outside before leaving for Caracas where several thousand supporters had gathered to welcome him.

Guaido had vowed to return to lead protests on Monday and Tuesday during the Carnival holiday period. He kept details of his trip under wraps and he arrived without prior notice, meeting ambassadors for European countries at the airport, according to witnesses.

“Back in our beloved country! Venezuela, we just passed through immigration and we will now head to where our people are,” he said on Twitter just after arriving.

His return could become the next flashpoint in his duel with Maduro as he seeks to keep up momentum and spur his international backers to further isolate the socialist government. Most Western countries recognize Guaido as Venezuela’s legitimate head of state.

Juan Guaidó in Las Mercedes: Here I am ... now the game is another # 4Mar
March 04 2019, 1:12 pm By Lisbeth Piñeros / lapatilla.com

The president in charge of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, is already in the Plaza Alfredo Sadel de Las Mercedes, with his wife Fabiana Rosales, diplomatic corps and the deputies of the National Assembly (AN), and from the platform he spoke to the country.

"We are much more united and strong than ever. I'm here. The game changed ... the game is different, "said Guaidó.

In addressing his first words to those attending the rally, he sent a condolences "to the relatives of the indigenous people and young people killed, and despite this, is there an iota of fear?" Guaidó asked.

"Whoever usurps functions and disguises himself in carnivals with the presidential band is not the president. Here is the president in charge of Venezuela. We said it on January 5, the military band is broken and here is the president in charge of Venezuela, here they have me. Yesterday they did not want to receive them in Russia, they did the 'fo', but they could see the great reception they gave us in the countries we visited. The world is supporting this fight, "he added.

"Union and mobilization are the two elements we need to end this usurpation," he reiterated.

He insisted that "there will be normality until we recover the family hug, until all those who left (...) We will watch over his return home, we will watch over everyone."

He called unions and public employees to a meeting. "We can not allow those who force marching and wearing a flannel to continue abusing them. It is time to leave this regime without functioning, "he said.

He also took the opportunity to announce that for Saturday, March 9, he is calling for a new demonstration. "All of Venezuela goes out in search of freedom and we will not stay calm until we achieve the liberation of our country," he added.

"We are going well, we are doing very well, we are going with everything until we achieve the freedom of our country," he concluded.

The sycophants want Guaido jailed (and given a proper Chavista welcome at the Helicoide!) and made an example of. But Maduro knows that if so much as a hand is laid on him, there will be a shit-storm of epic proportions. But if he lets him wander about and keeps drawing bigger and bigger crowds, it makes him look weak. The betting money is that Guaido gets assassinated in public, and the Chavistas find the "CIA" operative who admits to doing so at the behest of Duque or Bolso. (complete with written instructions and their signatures) They have already showed their hand. Which is why Guaido is surrounded by foreign diplomats.

The only thing the Chavists cannot understand is what life would be like without them in power. Perhaps they think like the spouse of abusive alcoholics... ignore the problem and it goes away?

.......and apparently neither does Jowls Maduro.

Trump's bat-shit crazy enough that the regime obviously doesn't want to find out. This is another black eye for Maduro because he's on record saying that Guaido needed to be punished for disobeying a Supreme Court order.

Guaido has all the cards. And all the time in the world.

Maduro is out of money.

He doesn't control PdVSA (except what he can pump out into cash paying customers tankers at a discount)

Russia and China want their debts repaid. (Maduro can't pay them except in oil which he can't pump because he doesn't have diluants)

He doesn't control his borders.

His key constituency has abandoned him.

The economy is in a free fall.

Infrastructure is getting worse (more blackouts today in Caracas)

And now the guy he wants to throw in jail is wandering around the country calling for massive strikes and demonstrations.

The money is running out. No PdVSA money for Quevedo to filter through his generals (after the Cuba skim) Only so much gold can be siphoned off (another 8 tons off to Dubai last week) that bypasses the FANB... and you can bet they are not happy about it.

Make no mistake. Once the FANB throws in the towel, the rest of the Chavista security apparatus will fold like a cheap suit. NOBODY will fight for Maduro and the rest of the corrupt hierarchy. Over at Aporrea.org, the Kool-Aid drinkers are howling about the mass defections of FANB (traitors to the Patria!) and the dearth of goodies that Maduro promised. (CLAP boxes, medicines, the economic "kick start" to the economy)

One thing is for sure. Maduro has ZERO intention of doing the right thing. He will not offer anything close to "free elections", because the one thing that the Chavistas give a shit about is staying in power, not sharing it, nor being in a minority. They don't give the least shit about Venezuela. Only the Revolution. They know damn well if there is free elections, they lose it all, even worse than 2015. Out goes the TSJ. Out goes the ANC. Out goes the CNE. Out goes the Cuban "military advisers". And most of the hierarchy will be heading for their second homes in Madrid, Seville, Milan or Marseille. Because once the forensic accountants start following the money, El Pueblo will want the Chavistas at the end of a rope hanging from a trestle.

.....lots of clips going around showing Maduro and Cabello talking about Guaido's pending arrest upon entering the country....and one I'd missed on last Wednesday night's Con El Mazo Dando with Cabello saying the governor of Vargas would be waiting for Guaido at the airport to arrest him.

Today it's all about finger pointing.

The funniest was the quote attributed to Attorney General Tarek Saab after being asked why he hasn't done something about the situation. "They said he couldn't leave the country, not that he couldn't enter". LOL

What happened to Diosdado Cabello's welcome to Guaidó?
The PSUV leader had indicated that he would have a "reception committee" in Maiquetía for the interim president

translated from Spanish

For the NATIONAL
MARCH 4, 2019 02:34 PM | UPDATED ON MARCH 04, 2019 04:16 PM

Diosdado Cabello had announced, ironically, on February 24 that he would receive Juan Guaidó, interim president of Venezuela, at Simon Bolivar International Airport after he announced his return to the national territory.

"He said he was entering through Maiquetía and we're waiting for him there. Jorge García Carneiro has a reception committee set up there," Cabello said on his program at Venezolana de Televisión .

The netizens published the video in which the official leader sentenced said action after Guaidó arrived in the country without problems at the airport.

Guaidó arrived in the national territory on Monday through a flight that landed at the Maiquetía airport and was received by several ambassadors from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Peru, the United States, Germany, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Portugal and Romania.

In addition, the interim president passed without problems by the migration post in the air terminal, where he was welcomed as a national agent.
