A Polish journalist was beaten by Venezuelan police on Thursday night in the capital, Caracas, the countrys press workers union said on Friday, denouncing harassment of reporters by the government of President Nicolas Maduro.
Tomasz Surdel of Warsaw-based Gazeta Wyborcza was stopped by police officers belonging to a special forces group known as FAES who initially asked to see his documents, the National Union of Press Workers said via Twitter.
The officers then covered Surdels face, hit him in the head with a blunt object and threatened him at gunpoint, the union said.

Apparently, driving while being a journalist is against the law here. As for FAES, I consider them only a step above the colectivos in that they're semi-legal but equally brutal. Many Venezulean citizens have been disappeared at their hands. Search warrants? We don't need no stinkin' search warrants. What I don't understand though, is that with supermarkets full of food, and government open-air markets practically giving away free shit to anyone and everyone, why the need to bust some journalist's ass?
