15:06 Unasur Defense Council to meet in Lima next week

Lima, Nov. 22 (ANDINA). Lima will host the 6th Regular Meeting of the South American Defense Council (SADC) of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), to be held on November 26-28 with the participation of ministers and vice ministers of defense in the region.

At this three-day summit, government officials from the 12 member countries will address issues of common interest on defense and security.

Lima will also be the venue for the 4th Regular Meeting of Heads of State and Government of Unasur on Friday, Nov. 30.

At previous SADC meetings, attendees agreed to make more transparent the military stock of South American countries through a new working group.

...and has his sites set on Greece, as well as funding corpo-fascist front men here (Bush Jr., Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan).

"The vulture capitalist who devoured Peru – and now threatens Argentina
Could Paul Singer destroy another economy?"

I rather think they will. This is a very smart bunch of leftist leaders who have taken the reins in South America. They are well aware that there is more to defending their independence and democracy than military cooperation, and that economic warfare is, in fact, the chief mode of destruction, domination and control used by transglobal corporations and their U.S. government. These new leaders have read "The Shock Doctrine." They've lived it. And one of their most important activities over the last decade has been building bulwarks against economic warfare by the U.S. and its various economic warfare agencies (such as the IMF/World Bank). Transglobal vultures and thieves like Paul Singer/Elliott Management, Exxon Mobil, Chevron-Texaco, Monsanto, Chiquita, Drummond Coal, Bechtel, et al, and military leeches like Dyncorp and other private contractors of the corrupt, murderous, failed U.S. "war on drugs, are the beneficiaries of U.S. economic warfare--not us, we are forced to pay for it, and not the South Americans, who have paid for it with miserable poverty, mass displacement and mass murder.

But economic warfare is very difficult, complex problem. If the U.S. war machine invades your country, it's a fairly simple matter to decide that you are against it and take action against it, and also to prepare for it by military coordination and cooperation agreements with your allies. Defending against economic warfare is not so straightforward. It first of all involves creating strong democratic institutions, capable of electing smart leaders who understand, say, the full price you are paying for investment by letting Exxon Mobile dominate your oil industry, or by letting Betchtel gain control of public water systems, or by taking loans with onerous conditions from the World Bank. NEXT, these leaders have to figure out and create alternative investment systems (true "free trade" on a level playing field), alternative loan and development systems (such as the Bank of the South), etc., while they are struggling through, say, Exxon Mobil's retribution (for instance, the oil bosses' lockout in Venezuela in 2002-2003, which was aimed at destroying Venezuela's economy and overthrowing the Chavez government that way, after the direct coup attempt failed). These are long term and complex battles, in which these enormous, unaccountable powers--such as Exxon Mobil--with fathomless resources and the backing of the U.S. government, with its overt and covert powers--never give up, and have myriad weapons and myriad battalions of operatives.

That Paul Singer has been exposed in the Independent MAYBE indicates that the Obama administration won't be so enthusiastic in backing Singer's destruction of Peru, Argentina and Greece, but since the destruction of these countries is in the interest of other transglobal monsters--the controllers of U.S. policy--and since Obama is clearly not interested in any serious curtailment of unaccountable billionaire power, I am not hopeful.
