Students Injured in Clash with Police in Paraguay
Asuncion, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) Two students were hospitalized and others were injured when the police intervened Wednesday against a protest by political appointees in the direction of the University of Villarica.
Students from the school located in the capital of the department of Guaira, in the eastern region of the country, showed his disagreement with the appointment of Norma Zarate, wife of a Colorado Party senator, as Deputy Dean of the center.
The first provision of Zárate, after taking office, was appointed her sister Paola Rodriguez as Faculty Coordinator, which led to student unrest.
Riot police arrived at the scene of the concentration and dispersed it with rubber bullets shooting that wounded hospitalized youth and tear gas and truncheons strokes, according to the newspaper Ultima Hora.
Many citizens in the area were supporting the student demonstration and were also victims of police repression.
