President Lugo Calls to Continue Changes in Paraguay

President Lugo Calls to Continue Changes in Paraguay

Asuncion, Feb 21 (Prensa Latina) Fernando Lugo, the Paraguayan president deposed by a parliamentary coup, urged people to continue the change undertaken by his government in 2008, which broke with over 60 years of Colorado Party rule.

In a letter addressed to the people, Lugo said the Guasú Front will continue on the road to victory begun in 2008.

That year, 800,000 Paraguayans "decided to start a change in our wounded society, to bring justice, progress and prosperity and heal the people's wounds," he recalled. However, putschists with economic power "who think they own Paraguay" decided to stop it, said Lugo.

Through the so-called parliamentary coup, 39 senators expelled the people from government in just 48 hours, Lugo recalled.
