There is getting "pissed off" and then there is "psycho!" This is the latter. That poor kid!

I almost don't know what to say. The surgeons repaired the physical damage, but not the psychological trauma.

My heart goes out to the father as well. What a devastating blow! I'm so grateful my wife has been such a loving mother to our children.

And if I was a different type of person, I probably would.


What I will say is, some people are not fit to be parents. Some people don't deserve to be parents.

in favor of leaving only women in complete charge of the world, everything would peace, love, and all around hunky dory. Stories like this fly right in the face of that argument.

Hopefully the kid will be alright..

For example, in The Bridge at Andau (1957), James MIchener stated that the women officers of the Hungarian Communist AVO (secret police) during the Stalinist period were shockingly brutal. Of course, I could go on and on.

The same set of cultural assumptions that encourage people to see men as the only ones capable of leadership also encourage people to see men as the only ones capable of violence.
"Never hit a girl, no matter what" is good advice, but doesn't go far enough. Don't hit boys either; this advice should be given to both boys and girls.

Reduction in the frequency of domestic violence has hit a wall because of a refusal to confront the bias described in the first sentence above. Domestic violence is mostly reciprocal and studies have shown that only 15% is nonreciprocal violence perpetrated by the man.

This was exemplified to me by a facebook post from my friends at the local domestic violence center celebrating the recent overturning of Marissa Alexander's conviction for aggravated assault - despite the fact that she is a convicted domestic batterer. If the cause is reducing domestic violence, then it doesn't help to celebrate the release of those convicted of it.

The boy in the OP is a victim of domestic violence. Perhaps if the cultural approaches to dealing with it as a social problem were a little more gender independent he wouldn't be.

Stupid people can't work things through their head, and instead fly off the handle and hurt others. Even worse is when they justify it by saying things like, "well they shouldn't have made me mad!" Bull crap!

Nobody should hit anyone ever. Violence is the most primal and dim-witted emotional expression there is. It takes no emotional or intellectual effort.

I think, on the other hand, not only is this mother abusive, but she's also crazy. Her kids should definitely be taken away. She needs mental help.

Smart people do stupid things sometimes.

I think it has a lot more to do with allowing yourself to be ruled by your emotions.

However, some folks have developed entire cottage industries around coming up with convoluted sociological narratives to blame violent or criminal acts on nebulous societal forces, ill-defined concepts, or entire groups of people who were not, actually, involved with the actual act.
