Those types of questions used to irk me as well.

My wife and I had two girls. Wouldn't have wished otherwise.

I wouldn't trade her for the world.

I just thought it was funny/odd. Im pretty stoked.

Let me tell you a little story. In 1976 I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. Loved him with all my heart. His father and I wanted him to have a brother or sister. By the time the baby was 17 mos. old I was again expecting! Good news. I wanted him to have a brother....I thought there would be more of a closeness for him to his new sibling. Back then we didn't know the gender before birth and surprise....I had a girl. I will admit that for a few moments after the birth of my daughter I felt disappointed. Ha! that didn't last long. What I didn't know at the time the closeness my son and my daughter would still enjoy today.

I also think, in my wise old age (LOL), that there is a special relationship or fathers and daughters that has that 'je nais sais que quality'. Enjoy!

I'm newly 36 & was thinking we might not be able to have one. She's going to be a very special gift for us.

I was mid 30s when our first was born. I figure I'm going to be a little pooped to deal with college-age shennanigans, but still...

Second, man, what an odd question for people to give you, I agree.

Third, wow, your first! Awesome!!! It's... i don't know, can't speak for others, but for me, about the most meaningful thing, experience, whatever, in my whole life. It changes you, or it should. Just love your kids, helplessly, totally, unconditionally, and then love them some more. Which is what you'll find yourself doing anyway, odds are.

I knew the genders of my kids immediately upon hearing my wife was pregnant. Dont know how, just... Knew. The skeptic would say "lucky guesses"

But I didn't "want" a gender, as in preference- just wanted em healthy.

When my buddy asked me how I felt, I replied that I had a deep sense of satisfaction. It's funny but true. I'm excited to think I can now help bring a new person in this world. A little girl who will call me daddy. It's pretty freaking cool..

My stomach keeps fluttering when I peek in our baby's room and look at the clothes and stuff we've beem getting in preparation. It's a real trip, lol!

There is someone you haven't met yet, that nevertheless you know is going to be one of the most important people in your life.

It's an awesome thing.

I remember an old Doonesbury comic that I kept for years.

Showed one of the characters learning of the birth of a girl, and she ran around screaming, "It's a baby woman! A baby woman!"

I loved that - wish I still had it.
