VIRGINIA BEACH

A 751-foot ship ran aground, two others collided and about a dozen other ships were dragging anchor in the lower Chesapeake Bay on Tuesday night.

The bulk carrier Ornak, which isn't carrying any cargo, had not moved this morning and the Coast Guard has called for tug boats to help move the ship around high tide, about 9:40 a.m., said Petty Officer 1st Class Brandyn Hill, a Coast Guard spokesman.

About 9 a.m., the Coast Guard announced that officials would hold a press conference near the site where the ship was grounded to discuss efforts to move it.

Hill said there were concerns about winds hampering efforts for tugboats to get to the scene and move the ship.
