State Farm Insurance has pulled an advertisement featuring Saturday Night Live alum and noted anti-vaccination advocate Rob Schneider, PR Week reports.
The advertisements in question feature Scheider’s “Richmeister” character, who first appeared on Saturday Night Live in 1991. It is one of a number of State Farm advertisements in which Saturday Night Live alums recapitulate characters they first played in the 1990s.
Social media outlets such as Food Hunk, Science Babe, and Chow Babe started the campaign against Schneider’s insurance advertisements last week, noting that “someone who publicly states dangerous opinions should not be a spokesperson for a health insurance company.”
A video supporting the removal of Schneider from all State Farm advertisements began to circulate online as well. The video claims that “State Farm provides health insurance, and nothing ensures public health more than getting vaccinated.”
