What can I say about John? He was the third John in our family, and you can never have too many Johns...New England born-and-bred, with both accent and attitude, he loved my sister well all the days of their marriage, over 30 years ago. He helped me with my renovation projects, he took in my father the last year of his life (for which he and my sister should be sainted), he supported my sister with her medical issues, and he taught generations of chemical engineers about the ins and outs of paper manufacture.

The hole left in our family will never be filled. We now have no adult males left.

Would someone be kind enough to take the Weekend Thread? I think I need to do some other things Friday and Saturday...

oh dear, I am out of town this weekend for our annual sister bonding, so unable to post anything.

All we can do is move on in time. I'm so sorry for the loss you've suffered.

One of my Grandfather's died from pancreatic cancer. It's a tough one.

I know I have only been posting here at the economy group for a short time, but really want to say that I apreaciate all that you bring here.

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending August 8, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 274,000, an increase of 5,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised down by 1,000 from 270,000 to 269,000. The 4-week moving average was 266,250, a decrease of 1,750 from the previous week's revised average. This is the lowest level for this average since April 15, 2000 when it was 266,250. The previous week's average was revised down by 250 from 268,250 to 268,000.

There were no special factors impacting this week's initial claims.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.7 percent for the week ending August 1, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending August 1 was 2,273,000, an increase of 15,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up 3,000 from 2,255,000 to 2,258,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,254,250, an increase of 14,250 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 1,000 from 2,239,000 to 2,240,000.
