No more Senate floor time for U.S. trade bank renewal: McConnell

WASHINGTON

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday that he would not devote any more floor time to legislation renewing the Export-Import Bank's charter, adding that the path forward for the trade lender's supporters is to try to attach it to a transportation funding bill.

"The way to achieve EXIM, if it's going to be achieved in the Senate, is in the context of the highway bill," said McConnell, who opposes reviving EXIM, which has been unable to offer any new loans or guarantees in support of U.S. exports since June 30.

I just read that at Boeing’s satellite division hundreds of workers were being laid off because the company can't compete with foreign manufactures that have the choice of several export-import financing banks. Same thing at GE with the export of gas turbines, now gone and with it the loss of 400 good paying union jobs.

I am more suspicious that the Republicans oppose renewing the Export-Import Bank just to kill off the unions that support the workers at these companies.
