The Big Companies That Avoid Taxes

*'This system is cumbersome — causing companies to devote great effort to tax avoidance — and unfair. A better system could lift economic growth, by directing more of investors’ money to truly promising companies, rather than tax-advantaged ones.

Fortunately, there are signs of hope. Overhauling the corporate tax code is a rare issue on which the two parties have some common ground. If the Democrats take the Senate, Wyden is in line to lead the Finance Committee and says its first priority will be a big bill to improve roads, bridges and public transit systems (and create jobs). The second will be a corporate-tax bill to pay for the infrastructure. Both are good ideas.'>>>

Our water systems - pipes are being used that were put into the ground sometimes over 100 years ago. Lead pipes feeding water from those water mains. Sewer piping that is as old as the water pipe. Water treatment plants and sewer treatment plants are held together with duct tape and chewing gum. Public schools that have been ignored so charter schools and sometimes religious operated schools can take public money.

The projects identified above, if addressed, would put far more people to work that on highways and bridges. Also, highway and bridge work provide for the highest profit margins of all construction work. The average road/bridge contractor will see about 15%-17% profit off of each job. A mechanical contractor (piping of all types, heating/cooling). electrical contractors, and general building contractors will see about 5%-8% profit from a job. That means more people (the workers) get more of the money put into the jobs. More people with more money will spend that money. Every dollar spent in a local economy turns over an average of six times.

Time for fair taxation.
