Sears is closing 96 more stores, leaving only 182 stores left in the US. Here's the full list

Sears and Kmart stores are facing more closings.

The parent company of the two retailers, Transform Holdco, announced in a Thursday press release that 96 more Sears and Kmart stores would close in the US by February, with liquidation sales at those stores expected to begin December 2.

The closings consist of 51 Sears stores and 45 Kmart stores.

I don't really understand why they don't just end it instead of dragging it out.

Our local Sears closed a couple of years ago, and the local Kmart is in the final stages of its liquidation. I have to say that I rarely shopped at either. I honestly don't know how our local Kmart store kept going as long as it did.

But I feel sad for the employees.

He, and his idol's "philosophy," which helped speed up Sears and KMarts' eventual demises (he had the different departments at the corporate level ruthlessly compete for resources as per objectivism) can't be wrong, and if for some reason it didn't work, he still thinks there's time left for him to grab whatever he can and make some decent bank on it.

Though he didn't help matters. Amazon and other online retailers play a big part in it. And I'm sad to see them go though I'm part of the problem. The last time I set foot in a Sears was in the late 90s - our company (and a few others) had a holiday party there. We got a certain percentage off our purchases, there were waiters with hor-d'oeuvres, professional carolers, a couple of small bands, and pictures with Santa. And of course, the whole place was wonderfully decorated. It was delightfully old-fashioned.

Montgomery Mall, Philly burbs. Went there all the time when we lived nearby. Got furniture, appliances, clothes there. Sigh.

I know it is hard to believe but I knew people who had a very solid middle class life with a father who worked at Sears. They had a decent salary and benefit package. This moron who is running the company into the ground on purpose will also cost retirees their pensions.

We only value the almighty dollar these days. This type of corporate raider is held up as a genius. They get rich on the back of the people who work for a living and make no excuses for it.

May he burn in hell for what he has done, right along with his mentor Ayn Rand.

Michael Moore and the kid with the bullet still in his spine pressured K Mart to do the right thing and ban the ammo that Harris and Klebold used.

The Mel Brooks part of me imagines the workers singing the Wayfair jingle while in the unemployment line.

Why can't WalMart--the Evil Empire--circle the drain? They are hugely responsible for so many people on welfare, while the Walton youngins are 6 of the 11 richest Americans. WalMart is also the top gun seller in the US and a major GOP donor.
