The 2-month-old strike at Manitowoc Co. has ended with machinists voting to accept a four-year contract that allows them to drop out of the union but still get the same pay and benefits.

By a vote of 112-59, members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 516 accepted the contract and ended a strike at Manitowoc's crane division.

Machinists and other employees idled by the walkout will be called back to work as production returns to normal levels, according to the company.

The machinists will then have seven days to decide, individually, whether they want to continue paying union dues or drop their membership and still be covered by the contract's terms.
