Members of California’s Assembly want their state to take the lead when it comes to comprehensive immigration reform. On Wednesday assembly member Roger Hernandez said California can’t wait for the federal government to act due to how vulnerable immigrant workers are to exploitation and abuse.

[Hernandez]: It is our job as lawmakers in this state to protect the rights of all workers, including immigrant workers.

Hernandez introduced legislation intended to provide greater protections for immigrant workers.

Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal is authoring companion legislation that would address the difficult to combat issue of wage theft.
