Churches and other orgs send scabs to cross picket line and work for free during strike
Indeed, strikers expressed frustration with those who did decide to work. How are they going to sleep tonight when they know were out here fighting for them to get a pay raise and they chickened out? asked Anthony Wendlberger, a cook.
A number of the replacement workers inside AT&T Park were unpaid members of nonprofit organizations, according to Bob Contreras, who was serving food and drink to benefit Day3 Church in San Joaquin. We all volunteer, he explained while on a break during the seventh inning, and all the proceeds go to our church, for ministry.
Its not unusual for non-profit volunteers to work at AT&T Park for free, in order to raise money for their organizations, but Mike Casey, president of Local 2, says that theyre being used to undermine paid workers. Its a real scam, says Casey. They [Centerplate] make huge savings, they dont pay wages, dont pay healthcare, dont pay pensions, they dont have to do any of the contractual requirements that they have to do for a worker.

Local 2 needs to stop the practice of letting unpaid workers perform bargaining unit work, whether there is a strike or not.
If the Giants or the the subcontractor want to donate some money to local charities, they can cut them a check.
Imagine if you were on strike and some church sent in people to do your job for free.

(47,992 posts)who repairs my car, the chamber of commerce is highly influenced by religious associations. It's frustrating, how this works, because no one really has to "break the law" by verbalizing anything other than certain phatic forms of communication about God and blessings and prayer and values etc. etc. etc.
I took a look once a few years ago at national level religious groups. Went to their websites, downloaded their documents about the benefits of joining their associations (and later lost them to a virus that killed that computer). They included: networking activities, sharing physical resources, personnel, liturgical consultations etc. etc. etc. A church member told me once, in a breakfast impromptu conversation at iHop, how her church contracts with other churches and they all temporarily swap ministers and speakers and such. She was complaining about how that was the whole sum and total of her church's activities. Now, given that the Bible is a certain specific set of unchangeable words, what do YOU suppose it is about these various shared speakers that makes one more popular than another? And is it unlikely that the more popular ones would rise up in their national level organizations?
Hmmmmm?
