“Carwasheros” sign historic first contract.

Today marks a historic first for the “carwasheros” that have been organizing with RWDSU since last September in NYC. The workers at Astoria Car Wash & Hi-Tek 10 Minute Lube were the first NYC carwash workers to organize and now they are the first to successfully negotiate a contract anywhere east of Los Angeles.

“This car wash contract has broad significance for all New Yorkers,” said RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum. “It proves that low-wage immigrant workers are able and willing to stand up and fight for better lives through unionization. We congratulate these carwasheros for their courage in this fight.”

The New York State AFL-CIO is committed to supporting workers standing up for a better life and congratulated our car wash brothers and sisters in RWDSU.
