Maine Anti-Union Bill Appears Stalled In Legislative Committee- 04/06/12

By Doug Cunningham

In Maine an anti-union bill seems stuck in a legislative committee after that committee took no action on the bill. More than a hundred union workers came to Maine’s statehouse to protest the bill Wednesday. The bill is a version of the so-called ‘right to work’ anti-union laws that exist in many states. If Republicans can find the votes to pass it they could still bring it to a vote in the Maine House. Union workers vowed to be at the statehouse every day until the bill is killed for good. Maine Governor Paul LePage supports the anti-union bill. The bill would allow workers covered by public union contracts and benefiting from them to not have dues deducted form their paychecks.
