Michigan State University could lose $500k for offering labor courses

>>>
Michigan State University could risk losing $500,000 if it does not stop offering courses that allegedly promote unionization.

A state Senate panel approved a measure Thursday banning courses at public universities that promote or discourage organizing efforts. It’s a reaction to MSU’s recent decision to take over some programs from the National Labor College.

Republicans say those courses violate the proposed rule.

“I believe in academic freedom, and you’re going to have difficult subjects that you’re going to cover at any university,” said state Rep. Al Pscholka, R-Stevensville, who chairs the panel that directs higher education funding in the House.

“But this is a case where I think we’re almost encouraging labor disputes, and I don’t think that’s appropriate.”

The only Democrat that sits on the Senate panel that approved the penalty says it’s unusual for lawmakers to scrutinize university programs this intensely.

“Why just this program?” asked state Sen. Morris Hood III, D-Detroit. “And I would guess to believe that this is a hot topic item and it ruffles a lot of feathers.”

is dead and buried.
There was an article in the January issue of Mother Jones about the influence of Dick DeVos in Michigan. This sounds like his work.

Or astrophysics for teaching about the Big Bang.

Certainly literature classes that cover socially critical material, or history courses about the labor rights movement need to go as well.

I don't have the big money to fight it, but I have found the time to join my county Democratic Party and help make calls to get out the vote and get the word and truth out about these folks. If this crap pisses you off, you do the same.

In reading the three academic books have on labor history, it needs to be taught as part of a normal business degree. These Republicans know that they can take the same knowledge, learn from history on how to restrict labor.

This limiting of academic topics will come back to bite them sometime but first expect this to be used against other colleges and universities nationwide, starting with states that Republicans control (e.g. Wisconsin).

In all fairness, it must be recognized that businessmen have not been trained or equipped to conduct guerrilla warfare with those who propagandize against the system, seeking insidiously and constantly to sabotage it. The traditional role of business executives has been to manage, to produce, to sell, to create jobs, to make profits, to improve the standard of living, to be community leaders, to serve on charitable and educational boards, and generally to be good citizens. They have performed these tasks very well indeed.

Geez. In Right Wing World, the free speech rights of Duck Dynasty cast members are way more important than these professors, because Communism I guess.

With Putin's recent games, the Islamic terrorists will be ignored for good old neo-USSR references.

They need to push the commie attack point to more moderates, never mind Putin's Russia is not communist.
