Job fair scheduled for former Griffin Pipe employees 250 jobs lost

Four years ago Griffin locked out the USW. The union never went back in production fell. Anti-union PR was rampant in the area. Now it seems those that bragged have some egg on their face with the loss of ALL the jobs.

An estimated 250 workers affected by the closing of Griffin Pipe in Council Bluffs will have an opportunity to find new employment next week at a job fair at the Mid-America Center.

The fair, sponsored by the Council Bluffs Chamber of Commerce and Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership, is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.

“What we’re trying to do is give the employees at Griffin Pipe the opportunities to connect with manufacturers and employers in Omaha and Council Bluffs that may have jobs for people,” said Bob Mundt, president and CEO of the Council Bluffs Chamber of Commerce.

City officials received a notice from U.S. Pipe Holdings of Hoover, Ala., which said Griffin Pipe would close in early May. U.S. Pipe purchased Griffin Pipe earlier this year.

In mid-February, approximately 60 employees at the Council Bluffs plant were laid off.
