PITTSBURGH (June 25) – Part-time faculty members at downtown Pittsburgh’s Point Park University have voted to join the Adjunct Faculty Association of the United Steelworkers (AFA-USW).

The group filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in April to hold a mail ballot election. A total of 314 part-time Point Park instructors were eligible to vote, and the ballots were counted this morning at the NLRB’s downtown offices.

“The adjunct instructors have spoken very clearly with this vote,” said USW International President Leo W. Gerard. “Now it’s time for the Point Park administration to work with them to craft a fair collective bargaining agreement that provides the faculty with the benefits and basic protections that all workers deserve.”

I grew up around here and we were always hard working straight minded, the people who made things work. I moved away in the 80's and moved back in 2002 and couldn't believe the change!
I'm amazed how people, no matter their intelligence or education can so easily believe the propaganda.
Back in the 70's and 80's many of the unions were my customers/clients and I saw the corruption in the leadership that the members allowed.
I don't think it's much different today but in a different manner. If the members don't or can't influence leadership (?) to work in the best interest of all, why not throw them out?
Most of the people I talk to even today can do nothing but bad mouth unions and their membership. I always have to ask, how can you as one person assure your rights as an individual when going up against a company that can squash you or replace you or force you to take less compensation than you are are worth just by their financial resources?

Thanks Steve, always read everything you post.
