Menard's contract threatens managers with 60% pay cut if union forms on their watch

It's no secret that John Menard is opposed to unions. But the Progressive magazine has obtained a copy of a contract agreement between Menard's home-improvement store chain and managers that enshrines the billionaire's anti-union stance in company policy.

The Progressive published a story Tuesday with wording from the contract that threatens Menards store managers with a 60-percent pay cut if they allow employees to vote in a union.

Here's the actual wording of the provision:

“The Manager’s income shall be automatically reduced by sixty percent (60%) of what it would have been if a union of any type is recognized within your particular operation during the term of this Agreement. If a union wins an election during this time, your income will automatically be reduced by sixty percent (60%).”

setting the workers against managers. Although the British Navy was run that way, back in the days of Captain Bligh.

is giving me a reason not to shop their stores anymore. I can't believe that such a clause in a contract is legal.

I was happy to see a Menards open nearby, but that has now changed. I will concentrate my hardware purchases at my local True Value and Ace stores. I feel much more comfortable with them.

Let's see, you cut my salary 60%, and I'm gone, with or without a job. If it happens at 1 store, all managers would be gone within hours. I wonder how the workers bees can work without management? I personally can see the store shutting down, at least temporarily.

This is yet another example of the 1% controlling and destroying the middle class. I'm betting John and his cronies aren't going to vote for Bernie either.

I made that decision when I learned Menard funded Scott Walker and the Repubs in Wisconsin.

John Menard Jr. is widely known as the richest man in Wisconsin. A tough-minded, staunchly conservative 75-year-old billionaire, he owns a highly profitable chain of hardware stores throughout the Midwest. He’s also famously publicity-shy — rarely speaking in public or giving interviews.

So a little more than three years ago, when Menard wanted to back Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker — and help advance his pro-business agenda — he found the perfect way to do so without attracting any attention: He wrote more than $1.5 million in checks to a pro-Walker political advocacy group that pledged to keep its donors secret, three sources directly familiar with the transactions told Yahoo News.

And it paid off ...

The Yahoo report noted that Menards — Menard's big box home improvement store chain — was awarded up to $1.8 million in tax credits by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, the public-private jobs agency chaired by Walker, in 2013 and 2014.

... if the Trans-Pacific Partnership is allowed to become law. Rapacious corporatism is the single most destructive force threatening the continued existence of America. We let filth like Menard continue their depredations at our peril.

Why don't these OnePercenters ever take a "pay cut?" Maybe 60% of their riches?

It's always the little guy who sacrifices for these assholes.
