Hydrogen Refueling Gets Boost From Norwegian Company

Gas2.org | Steve Hanley | May 15, 2016

Norwegian company H2 Logic is poised to introduce new hydrogen refueling stations later this year. Yes, I know many of you dismiss hydrogen powered cars as a poor substitute for electric vehicles. But it behooves us to be aware of new developments in the world of transportation, even if it involves harnessing the energy of moonbeams.

Until now, hydrogen refueling stations have suffered from one important drawback. They only had the ability to satisfy the needs of a few cars at a time. The new H2 Logic stations will address that issue. Bjorn Simonsen, director of business development at NEL ASA, the parent company for H2 Logic says they will be able to service up to 5 hydrogen cars simultaneously...snip

...H2 Logic currently has 25 hydrogen refueling stations throughout Europe. The first of its new stations will open this fall with three times the refueling capacity of existing stations. It will be able to deliver 100 kg of hydrogen in three hours and 200 kg during a single day.

Here’s the big news. It will produce its hydrogen using the excess energy provided by energy positive buildings nearby. Stop for a minute and think about how many buildings in your area create more energy than they use. Norway is a world leader in strategies that reduce or eliminate greenhouse gasses throughout the economy. If only the US was as conscientious....snip

H2Logic can install a Hydrogen station anywhere there is water and electricity in 48 hours

I Norge - og rundt om i verden, er H2 nummer 1

The Toyota Mirial has a roughly 5kg fuel tank capacity for 312 mile range per their website.

So these H2 fuel stations will supply fuel for 40 cars of this size per day.

Most gas stations have about 200 customers per day doing a fillup. About 5 times the capacity of the station in the above article.

It takes about 10 minutes to fill a 5kg H2 tank at 10,000 psi. A quick charge EV takes 20 minutes.

It takes 60kwh to make and compress a kg of H2, and a Miral get 67miles per kg.
A miral then gets 89.5 kwh per 100 miles.
A Leaf EV is rated at 34 kwh per 100 miles. This is 2.6 times more miles for the same source electricity.

The Mirial has about 3 times the range vs the Leaf. The H2 car is faster to refuel, but costs 2.6 times more energy per mile to run than current battery EV's.
