Major W. Austalian Wheat Transshipment Site Flooded With Bulk Of Wheat Harvest In Storage

It's OK, it's just food . . .

CBH faces a big damage bill and long delays to shipments at one of the most crucial moments of the season after the record rains. The co-operative confirmed a flood at its receival site in Borden, where grain was being held after being collected by local growers after harvest.

Social media posts showed torrents of water gushing through the bins and lapping the edges of temporary grain holding pens.

EDIT

The group said it was working with rail company Brookfield and customers to determine the extent of flood damage to road and rail infrastructure and the grain network. “Kwinana, Albany and Esperance ports will experience some delays in ship loading as the network and road and rail resources get back to normal operations later in the week,” a spokeswoman said.

Brookfield closed most lines in the Kwinana port zone last Friday and they were likely to stay closed until the middle of this week. Almost all farmers finished their grain harvests at the end of January and were now moving their product to receival sites around the Wheatbelt for storage and sale.

For those farmers sakes, I hope it does.

But in the long term, insurance may be the one thing that gets people to take climate change seriously, when insurance companies refuse to pay out any longer.
