As Of June 8th, The First Category 4 Pacific Hurricane Of The Season - Aletta - Spins Off Mexico
Friday, June 8, 2018, 14:08 - The east Pacific hurricane season, which starts on May 15 each year, has its first official hurricane. Hurricane Aletta, which formed early Wednesday, achieved hurricane status on Thursday afternoon after its sustained winds climbed to 120 km/h. Strengthening rapidly overnight, the storm was rated Category 4 by Friday afternoon as it continued to churn in the waters off the west coast of Mexico.
The storm, located about 815 km west-southwest of Manzanillo on Friday, is expected to continue strengthening slightly through Saturday before it encounters cooler water and less-favourable atmospheric conditions. Rapid weakening is then expected through the weekend. Fortunately for Mexicans and travellers alike, the storm's track keeps it well offshore throughout its life cycle.
