Dust Bowl? Can we expect more of these? 3Hotdogs Aug 2018 #1
They've been happening for a few years now. One possible explanation: Liberty Belle Aug 2018 #2
Interesting. We do solar projects in N.J. but the ground underneath is kept green grass. 3Hotdogs Aug 2018 #3

There seems to be a correlation between massive desert wind and solar projects that scraped topsoil away from thousands of acres, and the sudden occurrence of dust storms in those same areas in Texas, AZ, and eastern CA.

Solar is good in most places when sited correctly, and wind in some locations is also a clean energy source. But as we learned during the 30s when topsoil was scraped bare by industrial farming equipment, Dust Bowl conditions can then occur. I believe that's one reason we are seeing these massive dust storms again this decade that we hadn't seen for many decades, since the Dust Bowl some 80-90 years ago.

There's some info in this article on places where desert topsoil was stripped shortly before big dust storms occurred:

Some of the projects have miniature goats to keep the vegetation low.
