Recycling is a serious issue for the environmentally aware people all over the world. Those of us who are trying to do some good in the world also make a sustained effort to recycle or reuse everyday products in materials to prevent them from ending up in landfills.
Not so long ago, we talked about the advantages and disadvantages of recycling to show everybody a clear picture of what we are up against when it comes to this approach. Today we will change the viewing angle a little and discuss things that cannot be recycled (although many people think they can).

(13,360 posts)well this is depressing...not much we can do is there? I mean yea, use less, but it is still millions of people using this shit and it's still gonna end up choking the planet

(16,927 posts)You think you are "doing your part" only to find out that there's so much of that stuff that just isn't going to be recycled. Ugh!!!!!
And I laughed at the "books" solution: Give them to libraries, clubs, etc, etc. What they are doing is telling you to just past it on down the line: "Last one holding loses!!!" Not really a very good answer, especially from a site that seemed to be truly concerned about what to do about our pollution problem!

(13,360 posts)I will NEVER give up my books anyway I have my own mini library and it is an addiction...
But yeah, then you look around and realize the sheer quantity of CRAP humans are spitting out on a daily basis. I mean, just my town...then think about that compared with NYC's population and how many of them even try?
The whole thing is so discouraging, then we get paralyzed with angst and fear.
I told my teens, NO grandchildren. I don't even know how fucked we are going to be 20 years from now

(13,485 posts)So what can be recycled except for squeaky clean unbroken glass, cleaned plastic bottles without caps and some rather specific untreated cardboard?
