Shame on Costco!

I was sickened when I went yesterday and saw so many people leaving with single use large packs of Kirkland water.

Conflict to keep shopping there.

They should take it upon themselves to package their water in compostable corn-based plastic, or something else that will disintegrate.

Also disappointed they are no longer carrying Wild Planet sustainable tuna.

I have filled out their comment cards at the front of the store and they’ve been receptive. Agree 100% on the packs of water...this has got to stop.

but perhaps people are buying water to stock up in case of a disaster of some sort? The jury is still out on how sustainable while stored for long periods the degradable packaging is.

do corn-based plastic water bottles last, when they're filled with water? And why aren't "plastic" straws made out of that stuff?

You don't have to use them. For all you know, the people may be getting bottled water for their place of business or a concession stand. I don't like them and seldom, seldom use them. I carry a reusable, refillable bottle with me most of the time.

When a customer or staff member crashes due to heat at the greenhouse, it is really nice to be able to grab a cold bottle of water out of the pop machine. Yes we have a couple of water fountains but hard to transport that water to the person in question. Find a clean glass, etc.

When I entertain, I always have water for anyone who prefers that beverage. I usually start with water in a caraf, but the bottled water can come in handy. Water from my faucet tastes pretty awful without a Brita filter and refrigeration.

I have water bottles in my emergency bag. And in my emergency stash. One never knows ..... I freeze a couple of bottles to put in my ice chest while traveling - in addition to my refillables.

I strive to limit my use of single serve anything and try not to use plastic. That is my personal goal. I don't want to expend my energy judging other people's purchases or personal habits. Not my job.

my comment was about Costco, not the consumers?

This place is getting to judge-y for me.

Come on. We are all suffering.

Bully for you, by the way.

Over and out.
